The New Orleans Jungian Seminar

Bolligen Stone
Founded in 1997, the New Orleans Seminar is designed to offer advanced study in the psychology of C. G. Jung. Students meet for ten monthly seminars in three-year cycles. Certified Jungian analysts offer lectures and experiential learning as well as review the papers and presentations prepared by the participants. The seminars convene once a month from Friday afternoon through Saturday. The New Orleans Seminar is an approved training center of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. The society was established in 1973 to provide training for students in analytic psychology. The Inter-Regional Society is a member of the International Association of Analytical Psychologists.

The New Orleans Seminar meets the criteria for continuing education credit for Louisiana Professional Counselors. The program has also been approved by the National Association of Social Workers, Louisiana Chapter, and may be applied toward the continuing education requirements for licensure renewal.

The seminar is designed for professionals as well as other applicants who demonstrate a serious interest in analytical psychology and who have the capacity to learn and integrate the concepts, values, and experience of Jungian analysis and psychology. Each applicant must commit to an attendance of one year and must have completed a minimum of 50 hours of personal analysis with a certified Jungian analyst. Throughout the year of study, participants must continue their analysis with a certified Jungian analyst.

After a minimum of one year of study and with the approval of the New Orleans Seminar, participants who hold a professional license or are in pursuit of a professional license in a psychotherapy discipline and who have completed 100 hours of Jungian analysis may elect to apply for candidacy to the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. Applicants must meet all the application requirements established by the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts.

Those who are admitted as candidates will continue to attend the New Orleans Seminar in preparation for the Propaedeuticum examinations. After completing these examinations, the candidates will move into the Control Stage of training where they will be required to attend Case Colloquium on a monthly basis, continue their personal analysis, and contract for Case Control Supervision. During the Control Stage of training, candidates are practicing Jungian analysis under supervision. To graduate, the candidates must pass both a thesis and a diploma examination and must meet all requirements of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, including the ability to legally practice independently in an analytical-type practice in the intended state of residence.
